Tasmanian sight fishing at its best

What we do

We work with you to explore what you want to get out of your time with us and tailor your package to that. No single method works best under all conditions. As such, we have positioned ourselves to offer both Fly and Conventional (lure) fishing so you get the most out of your trip with us.  For larger groups 3+ we can source other guides. So whether you’re a fly fisher, a lure caster or a ‘bit of both’ kind of person (or group) we’ve got you covered.

Beginners to experts

No matter where you are on your fishing journey, we’ve got you covered. We welcome everyone, from the young to the young at heart. Learning to cast a fly is about timing and application of power. Big muscles are not required, neither is a working rotator cuff (shoulder). As your casting improves, options for different styles of fishing open up.

Fishing in Tasmania is a unique proposition - most of your time will be sight casting to seen fish – the fish will be Insight. For those fish we can’t see, we have the Insight to get them to bite.

What’s in a name?

Often overlooked is the fact that Tasmania has some other wonderful fisheries. Seasonally we target sea run Brown Trout, Southern Black Bream (Australia’s biggest), Flathead, Southern Calamari, Kingfish, and Snapper. If this sounds like you, use the form or mobile number at the bottom of the site to get in touch.

Not just trout

Tasmanian fishing at its finest

Midging

Seeing trout rise and take midge off the surface, you must anticipate its direction and speed of travel and cast in front of them.

Polaroiding

Using Polarised sunglasses to see through the surface reflection of the water, casting to sighted fish before they see you.

Tailing

Fish come up on the grassy margins to feed in water so shallow their dorsal and tail fins stick out of the water - typically early morning and late evening.

Sharking

Finding fish glowing iridescent orange in the top foot or so of water on warm and windy days in the middle of a lake.

Hatches

Seasonally we have mayfly duns and spinners, caddis, stonefly, midge, gum beetles, jassid and grasshoppers.

Lure fishing

Casting in amongst structure on or close to the shorelines and shallows. Concentrating on the points, rocks, drowned timber and weedbeds, tricking trout with an irresistible high protein substitute.

    Shimano Fishing Australia

As a Shimano Fishing Australia affiliated guiding service, we are able to provide the the most exceptional conventional spinning gear available. The rods and reels we have curated are adept at casting the lightest of lures, working the lure to give exceptional action, sensitive enough to feel the slightest of fish ‘bumps’, and landing big fish.

    Manic Tackle Project

As an affiliated guiding service with Manic Tackle Project we are able to provide you with the best possible gear from Simms Fishing Products to keep you warm, dry and protected from the environment (it’s been known to snow in summer here). We also provide amazing Scott and Primal fly rods teamed with Lamson fly reels and Airflo fly lines.

    The Boat

A NZ made Extreme Boats 1770 Enduro side console. Chosen for its safety and stability this vessel is in AMSA 2D survey. It has a raised floor, fore and aft to give you better vision into the water and to cast from. It has an electronics suite second to none in the Tasmanian guide fleet. 2× Lowrance HDS Pro 16’s and 2x Active Target 2 systems that can work independantly in scout and forward mode at the same time. With this setup, you will see the fish that other boats miss.
